Twenty-three years old. Never saw a challenge he couldn't meet, had never failed at anything*. The only fear he knew was of discovering the truth of what he suspected: the old folks were right; time accelerates as you grow older. Turns out they didn't lie and the fear is justified. It was a nearly-conscious change of challenges from conformist education to the contemplative, interactive life. So it didn't work out. So he abandoned that for the military. So? |
