From A Racing Report In Road & Track January,
Running at Torrey Pines: this would be the event in the
program at Covers -1-.
Pages From Sports Cars Illustrated
Same event as above, and in the
program at Covers -1-. The text in this one shows the writer
was convinced this was the last-ever race at Torrey Pines. Strangely enough,
there was one more Torrey Pines Road Race, as seen at Covers
from a 1952 magazine report on a Torrey Pines race. It shows the Grant Piston
Ring Special 4.5-liter Ferrari Tipo 375, one of four that had been entered
in the Indy 500 that year. It was originally a European Formula racer. Several
drivers, foreign and domestic, made attempts at qualifying the cars. Johnnie Parsons,
1950 Indy winner was at one time scheduled to drive it or another similar in a
Grand Prix event, but was not allowed to compete because of a "technicality"
having to do with the car.
