In a time
when advertising was not allowed on race cars, and drivers were "set down"
by "amateur" organizations (SCCA, Cal Club) for participating in professional
racing events, the RRR was an effort to inject a little sanity into the
milieu, and a little money into the pockets of the drivers and owners. It lasted
a year or two. See Art Evans' Fabulous
Fifties—Sports Car Races In Southern California for a little more background.
