Bobby Rahal, pre-apex at Turn Two (Four?), Riverside International Raceway. These were the big boys, (former) USAC Indy racers. I'm guessing 1984 or 1985. If it was 1983, he won. [Has to be 1983: 1981, 1982 = Mears wins; no 1984]

The actual facts: August 28, 1983;
Rahal won
; qualified 4th, did 95 laps in 2:45:28, 113.678 mph

Getting the wrong-way right-to-left picture out of the way to implement smoother scanning from here on. Mario Andretti about to apex Turn Two (Four?). Mario again, pre-Michael I think, seeing the "Andretti"-only naming decal. Here he is leaving the Turn Six second apex.

Mario a little later on, not that far from where Teo Fabi collected his dramatic slide. Cresting the Turn Seven hill, Mario will soon be on the Seven-Eight straight, like the other car. In the full-size view you can see where one of the modern variations shortcuts from the Grand Prix course.

Mario Andretti was credited with 16th; qualified 3rd; did 57 laps; transmission.
