Tom Cole
Killed in an accident at Whitehouse, Le Mans, June 1953

Thumbnail: 1953 magazine page featuring Tom Cole

Here is part of a page from the January, 1953, issue of Auto Speed and Sport magazine. The caption refers to the man in the plaid shirt: "Tom Cole, now flying America's blue and white, is a driver to follow in the '53 season. Tom is best known on this side of the Atlantic for his Bridgehampton wins with his Cad-Allard, but lately has been driving a Ferrari."

In case you came to this page by some other route, Cole's Le Mans accident is referenced on the last page of the ". . . Austin Healey at Le Mans" article.

I bid on this 1:43-scale BBR replica of the Ferrari 340 MM Vignale Barchetta Cole was driving at Le Mans. It's from Italian modeler and vendor "tronpaolo", on eBay. Result: no luck. It went for $118.50 (for a 3½-inch white-metal model assembled by one of the best from a kit made by the best model-maker).
